DON’T USE COMMON SENSE TO EXPLAIN SPIRITUAL MATTERS

It is a common temptation for many people to rely on their own understanding and common sense when it comes to spiritual matters. However, the Bible teaches that this is not a reliable approach. The carnal man explains spiritual matters with his carnal mind.
One of the most well-known verses in the Bible is Proverbs 3:5-6, which says, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. This verse makes it clear that we are not to rely on our own understanding or common sense when it comes to spiritual matters, but rather we are to trust in God and submit to His will.

Another passage that speaks to this is 1 Corinthians 1:25, which says, For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. This verse reminds us that even our best efforts at understanding spiritual matters are nothing compared to the wisdom and knowledge of God.

Additionally, in Isaiah 55:8-9, God says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. This passage reinforces the idea that our understanding and common sense are limited, and that God’s ways and thoughts are far beyond our own.

Moreover, in Colossians 2:8, Paul warns the Colossians not to be taken captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. This verse serves as a reminder that human wisdom and philosophy should not be the foundation of our spiritual understanding, but rather, Christ should be.

Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 2:14, it says The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. This verse explains that spiritual matters can only be understood through the Holy Spirit, and not by human wisdom or common sense.

The Bible teaches that we should not rely on our own understanding or common sense when it comes to spiritual matters. Instead, we are to trust in God, submit to His will, and seek to understand spiritual matters through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

It is also important to note that, spiritual matters are not something that can be fully grasped by human intellect or logic, it is a matter of faith and relationship with God. Spiritual matters are often mystery and above human comprehension. Therefore, it is important to approach spiritual matters with humility and a willingness to learn and grow in our understanding.

In addition, it’s important to understand that, relying on common sense to explain spiritual matters can lead to misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the scripture. The Bible is not a scientific or historical book, it is a book of faith, and it should be approached as such. It’s important to interpret the Bible in its historical and cultural context, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that we should not rely on our own understanding or common sense when it comes to spiritual matters. Instead, we are to trust in God, submit to His will, and seek to understand spiritual matters through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We should approach spiritual matters with humility and a willingness to learn and grow in our understanding, and interpret the Bible in its historical and cultural context. As the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
May God help us all in Jesus mighty name!
