It is a common temptation for many people to rely on their own understanding and common sense when it comes to spiritual matters. However, the Bible teaches that this is not a reliable approach. The carnal man explains spiritual matters with his carnal mind.

Another passage that speaks to this is 1 Corinthians 1:25, which says, For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
