PASTOR, DON’T BOW TO THE DEVIL

In the journey of ministry, especially for pastors and ministers of the Gospel, the call is high and the stakes are even higher. The devil is ever present, seeking to seduce God’s servants into shortcuts, compromises, and illegitimate sources of power, wealth, and protection. Many fall prey to these temptations, believing that the promises of the devil, power, wealth, and safety, are worth compromising their integrity and divine calling.

But I declare to you today, “Pastor, don’t bow to the devil.” Do not accept power, wealth, or protection from Satan to carry out God’s work. Such gains are fleeting, deceptive, and ultimately destructive. True power, wealth, and protection come from God alone, and His way is the way of righteousness and divine authority.

The Devil’s Temptation: Power, Wealth, and Protection

1. The Temptation of Power

The devil is a master of deception, offering Jesus in Matthew 4:8-9 “all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,” if He would worship him. Satan promises dominion and authority without the cross, without obedience, and without sacrifice.

Matthew 4:8-9 “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”

Jesus’ Response:
Matthew 4:10 “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

This interaction underscores that Satan is willing to give power, but it is counterfeit and comes at a cost, worshiping him. The true authority belongs to God alone.

2. The Temptation of Wealth

Satan often promises material wealth and riches to lure believers and ministers into greed and compromise. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 warns:
“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil.”

The devil uses greed to distract ministers from their divine calling, tempting them to seek wealth through illegitimate means.

3. The Temptation of Protection

Many are tempted to find security in illegal or ungodly alliances, charms, amulets, or even satanic pacts to guarantee safety from enemies or opposition. Psalm 91:1-2 affirms that true protection is only found in God:

Psalm 91:1-2 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Any other source of protection is counterfeit and unstable.

The Dangers of Bowing to the Devil

1. Loss of Divine Authority

When a minister accepts power, wealth, or protection from Satan, they compromise their divine authority. They are no longer walking in God’s anointing but in counterfeit authority, which is fleeting and dangerous.

Matthew 7:21-23 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
Disobedience and compromise disqualify a minister from genuine divine authority.

2. Spiritual Deception and Bondage

Accepting illegitimate power or wealth binds a minister spiritually. The devil is a master deceiver; those who bow to him become enslaved to his will.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness.”
Satan’s ministers appear as angels of light but are agents of deception.

3. Loss of God’s Favor and Blessing

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). Bowing to Satan for power or wealth invites God’s wrath and withdrawal of His favor.

Proverbs 3:5-7 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Trusting in God’s divine provision and authority is the only safe way.

4. Eternal Consequences

Matthew 16:26 warns:
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Compromising with Satan forfeits eternal life.

The Biblical Examples: Leaders Who Refused Satan’s Offerings

1. Jesus Christ

Jesus was tempted by Satan in Matthew 4, but He refused to bow, accept power, or wealth from the devil. His response was rooted in Scripture:

Matthew 4:10 “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Jesus set the perfect example: trusting God’s authority, power, and protection alone.

2. King David

David, though anointed king, waited for God’s timing and did not seek illegitimate power or wealth through wicked means. His trust was solely in God’s divine protection and favor.

Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”
His confidence was in God’s protection, not in magical charms or alliances.

3. Apostles and Early Church Leaders

The apostles refused to accept money or worldly power to influence their ministry. Acts 4:13 recounts how Peter and John, after healing the lame man, refused to accept the praise or material gain, pointing people to Jesus.

The Call to Ministers: Depend on God’s Power, Wealth, and Protection

1. Trust in Divine Power

Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”
True power in ministry comes from the Holy Spirit, not Satan or worldly sources.

2. Rely on God’s Wealth and Provision

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
God is the source of all provision. Ministers must trust Him rather than seek illegitimate wealth.

3. Seek God’s Protection

Psalm 91 remains the believer’s refuge and fortress. Understand that genuine safety comes from walking in obedience and holiness, not charm or occult protection.

The Danger of Collecting Power, Wealth, or Protection from Satan

1. It Is Deception and a Trap

Satan’s offers are temporary and deceptive. Deuteronomy 8:17-18 warns against trusting in uncertain riches or deceptive power:

Deuteronomy 8:19-20 “And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.”

2. It Leads to Spiritual Death

Accepting Satan’s gifts leads to spiritual bondage and eternal separation from God.

3. It Disqualifies True Ministry

God’s anointing and approval are forfeited when a minister relies on the devil’s power or wealth.

The True Source of Power, Wealth, and Protection

1. Power From the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit is the divine source of power for effective ministry.

2. Wealth from God’s Blessings

Deuteronomy 28:2-8 describes how obedience to God brings blessing, wealth, health, and protection.

3. Divine Protection

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

God is the protector of His servants.
