In the journey of ministry, many ministers have fallen prey to two powerful temptations: money and women. These are not just natural temptations; they are spiritual traps designed to distract, derail, and destroy God’s servants. If not guarded against, they can pull down even the most anointed, cause shame, and hinder divine destiny.
Today, I want to sound a clarion call to every minister and believer: Beware of the opposite sex and the love of money. These are not trivial issues, they are spiritual battlegrounds that require wisdom, discernment, and divine grace to conquer.
1. The Power of Money in Ministry
A. Money as a Tool or a Trap
Money is not evil in itself; it is a resource. God blesses His servants to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2-3). However, the love of money, an obsession with wealth, becomes a root of all kinds of evil.
1 Timothy 6:9-10 “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.”
Ministers must guard their hearts against greed, greed for fame, or material gain.
B. Money as a Test of Integrity
Financial integrity is crucial. Many ministers have compromised their calling for money, accepting bribes, manipulating offerings, or chasing after wealth instead of souls.
Proverbs 23:4-5 “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone.”
Riches can be fleeting; integrity endures.
C. The Danger of Materialism
When ministers prioritize money over God’s purpose, they risk losing divine favor.
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve both God and money.”
The love of money leads to spiritual slavery and eventual downfall.
2. The Power of Women in Ministry
A. Women as Blessings or Traps
Women are a blessing from God (Genesis 2:18), but in the realm of ministry, the opposite sex can become a serious temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:12 “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
Ministers must be cautious because sexual temptation is a subtle and dangerous trap.
B. The Devil’s Strategy: Temptations of the Flesh
Many ministers have been ensnared by inappropriate relationships, leading to shame, loss of credibility, and spiritual defeat.
2 Timothy 2:22 “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace.”
Fleeing temptation is an active spiritual discipline.
C. Biblical Warnings
King David: His lust for Bathsheba led to murder and spiritual ruin (2 Samuel 11).
Samson: His weakness for women caused him to lose his strength and purpose (Judges 16).
Elijah: Guarding his heart and not be swayed by women (1 Kings 19:1-3).
D. Maintaining Boundaries
Have accountability partners.
Avoid compromising situations.
Keep your heart guarded with prayer and discipline.
Cultivate purity and integrity.
3. Why Money and Women Are Dangerous to Ministers
A. They Prey on Vulnerability
Ministers are often targets because they are spiritual leaders, and the enemy seeks to exploit their vulnerabilities.
B. They Lead to Pride and Self-Reliance
Both money and women can puff up pride, leading ministers to rely on their strength rather than God.
C. They Distract from Divine Purpose
Focusing on material gain or fleshly desires shifts attention away from spiritual priorities.
D. They Cause Spiritual and Reputational Damage
Fall into these sins can ruin ministries, destroy credibility, and cause lasting shame.
4. How to Guard Against Money and Women Temptations
A. Cultivate a Heart of Contentment
Philippians 4:11-12 “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”
Contentment is a safeguard against greed and temptation.
B. Live with Integrity and Transparency
Be accountable to leaders or mentors.
Avoid secret dealings or shady financial practices.
C. Set Clear Boundaries
Establish boundaries in relationships.
Avoid situations that could lead to temptation.
D. Stay Spiritually Alert and Prayerful
1 Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Stay vigilant and pray for divine protection.
E. Keep Your Focus on the Call
Remember your divine purpose and calling. Serve with humility and integrity, not for fame or fortune.
5. The Power of Grace and Divine Help
Rely on the Holy Spirit to guard your heart and mind (Galatians 5:16-17).
Confess your weaknesses and ask for divine strength (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Meditate daily on God’s Word to renew your mind and strengthen your resolve.
6. Biblical Examples of Victory Over Temptation
Joseph refused Potiphar’s wife’s advances, standing on integrity (Genesis 39).
Daniel remained faithful and pure, even in Babylon (Daniel 1).
Jesus overcame all temptations in the wilderness by quoting Scripture (Matthew 4).
Paul warned Timothy to flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness (2 Timothy 2:22).
7. The Rewards of Staying Pure and Focused
Divine favor and protection (Psalm 5:12).

Rise Above Temptation, Take Charge, Fight, and Stand
As a minister, you are called to be a vessel of integrity, purity, and divine authority. Money and women are powerful temptations, but you have divine backing and authority to overcome and conquer.
Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Stand firm. Fight spiritually. Guard your heart. Walk in integrity. And declare: I am more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens me!
Your ministry, your integrity, and your divine destiny depend on your ability to stand on your authority and conquer these temptations. The enemy is defeated, and victory is yours, by grace, faith, and divine discipline.
In the power of the Holy Spirit, rise above money and women temptations. Take charge of your spiritual life. Fight the good fight. Conquer territories for God’s glory. And leave a legacy of purity, integrity, and unwavering faith.
