Many people claim to be Christians, but true Christianity is more than a label or a superficial identity. It is a life transformed by Jesus Christ, marked by genuine faith, holiness, and obedience to God’s Word. The Lord Jesus Himself said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
If you desire to be a true follower of Christ, then it is time to examine your heart, your motives, and your walk — and to commit to being a genuine Christian.

A true Christian is someone whose life has been radically transformed by the power of God’s grace. It’s not merely about saying the right words or attending church; it’s about a heart that genuinely loves and follows Jesus. “By their fruits you shall know them.” (Matthew 7:20)
Genuine Christianity begins inside — a sincere repentance, a heartfelt surrender, and a desire to live according to God’s will.
- True Discipleship Demands Total Commitment
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
Being a Christian requires more than a fleeting interest; it calls for daily sacrifice, unwavering commitment, and a willingness to obey Christ above all else. “No one can serve two masters.” (Matthew 6:24)
“Count the cost.” (Luke 14:28) — Genuine discipleship involves forsaking worldly pleasures and embracing God’s purpose wholeheartedly.
- Authentic Christians Live Holy Lives
“Because it is written, Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
Holiness is not an option; it is a divine command. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)
A genuine Christian strives for purity, righteousness, and separation from sin. “If we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another.” (1 John 1:7) — true holiness is evidence of a real relationship with God.

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

Genuine Christianity begins with a spiritual rebirth — a new birth through the Holy Spirit. If your faith is superficial, it’s time to surrender fully and be born again. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- Endurance and Faithfulness Are Essential
“He who endures to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:13)
Genuine Christians are those who persevere through trials, temptations, and persecutions. Faithfulness to Christ until the end proves the authenticity of one’s salvation.
- Avoid Hypocrisy and False Pretenses
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of extortion and self-indulgence.” (Matthew 23:25)
A true Christian is not a hypocrite. Authenticity, humility, and sincerity in your walk with Christ are vital. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
- Live with Expectation of Christ’s Return
“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die.” (Revelation 3:2)
A genuine Christian lives in anticipation of Christ’s return, living holy, faithful, and prepared. “Blessed are those servants whom the master, when He comes, will find watching.” (Luke 12:37)
If you truly want to be a Christian, then be a genuine one. It’s not about superficiality, appearances, or mere religiosity. It’s about surrendering your heart to Jesus, living in holiness, obeying His Word, and walking in love and truth.
“Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.” (2 Corinthians 13:5) — Let your faith be real, your walk authentic, and your life a testimony to the transforming power of Christ.
Remember, Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,” (Matthew 7:21) — but those who do the will of His Father.
Be genuine. Be sincere. Be wholly His.
And He will say to you, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
