GROWING IN GOD - C. C Raymond Gospel Media

GROWING IN GOD

Today, I want to speak to your spirit about an essential aspect of Christian life, Growing in God. This is not merely about attending church or reading the Bible occasionally; it is about a continuous, intentional pursuit of spiritual maturity, intimacy with God, and transformation into the image of Christ.

Growth in God is a divine journey, an ongoing process that requires commitment, discipline, faith, and dependence on the Holy Spirit. It’s about moving from spiritual infancy to maturity, from superficial faith to deep-rooted conviction, and from mere believers to true disciples.

In 2 Peter 3:18, the Apostle Peter exhorts us, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” This is our divine mandate, to grow in grace, wisdom, and spiritual stature.

Today, I want to explore the biblical principles, truths, and steps that will help you grow in God and fulfill your divine destiny.

  1. Recognize That Growth Is a Divine Mandate

Ephesians 4:15 says, “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head, Christ.”

Growth is not optional; it is God’s divine will for every believer. Just as a natural baby matures into an adult, spiritual growth is an essential part of the Christian walk. Without growth, we remain vulnerable to deception, stagnation, and spiritual weakness.

Accept that growth in God is a command and a necessity. It’s part of your divine calling.

  1. Cultivate a Personal Relationship with God

John 15:5 records Jesus saying, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Growing in God begins with intimacy, abiding in Christ daily. Relationship is the foundation for spiritual growth. The more we stay connected to Jesus through prayer, worship, and obedience, the more we mature.

Spend daily time in prayer.
Read and meditate on the Word of God.
Worship and praise Him continuously.
Obey His voice and follow His commandments.

  1. Develop a Hunger and Thirst for God

Matthew 5:6 states, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

A genuine desire for God and His righteousness fuels spiritual growth. When you hunger for more of Him, He responds by filling you with His Spirit, wisdom, and divine truths.

Fast periodically, seek God earnestly, and pray with passion. Cultivate a longing to know Him more deeply.

  1. Be Rooted and Grounded in the Word of God

Colossians 2:6-7 emphasizes, “As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught.”

The Word is the seed of spiritual growth. It nourishes, guides, and stabilizes us. The more we meditate on Scripture, the more we grow in knowledge, wisdom, and discernment.

Read the Bible daily.
Memorize key scriptures.
Study and meditate on God’s promises.
Allow the Word to transform your mind and character.

  1. Embrace the Holy Spirit’s Guidance and Power

John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

The Holy Spirit is our divine Teacher, Comforter, and Source of power. Growing in God involves yielding to His guidance and allowing Him to shape and transform us.

Pray daily in the Spirit.
Listen for His voice.
Obey His leading.
Seek His empowerment for service and holy living.

  1. Pursue Spiritual Disciplines

2 Timothy 2:15 encourages us, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Spiritual disciplines, prayer, fasting, meditation, worship, service, are vital for growth. They keep us disciplined, focused, and aligned with God’s purpose.

Consistency in spiritual disciplines accelerates growth and deepens intimacy with God.

  1. Walk in Obedience and Holiness

1 Peter 1:15-16 exhorts us, “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.'”

Obedience is the evidence of growth. As we obey God’s Word, our character is refined, and we become more like Christ.

Identify areas of disobedience.
Confess sins and forsake them.
Commit to holy living and integrity.

  1. Engage in Fellowship and Community

Hebrews 10:24-25 states, “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.”

Growth isn’t meant to be isolated. Fellowship with other believers encourages accountability, edification, and spiritual maturity.

Join a Bible study or small group.
Serve in your local church.
Build relationships with mature believers.

  1. Serve Others in Love

Galatians 5:13 says, “For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Growing in God means growing in love and service. Serving others reflects Christ’s nature and expands your spiritual capacity.

Look for ways to serve, whether through acts of kindness, mentoring, or ministry.

  1. Overcome Trials and Challenges with Faith

James 1:2-4 reminds us, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Trials are opportunities for growth. They refine our faith, patience, and character.

Trust God’s sovereignty during difficulties. See challenges as part of your spiritual development.

  1. Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude and Praise

1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages us, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

A thankful heart opens the door for more blessings and deepens your relationship with God. Praise shifts your focus from problems to His power.

Keep a gratitude journal. List daily blessings and breakthroughs.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 states, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day… while we look at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Growing in God involves focusing on eternal realities rather than temporary circumstances.

Live with eternity in mind, knowing that your real life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).

Practice Patience and Perseverance:

Galatians 6:9 exhorts us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Spiritual growth is a process. Be patient with yourself and with God’s timing.

Keep pressing forward, trusting that God’s promises are sure and that your season of harvest is coming.

Stay Humble and Teachable.
Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Humble hearts are teachable hearts. Growth comes through humility and a willingness to learn from God and others.

Be open to correction, feedback, and divine discipline.

Walk in Love and Compassion.
Ephesians 4:15-16 says, “Speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head, Christ.”

Love is the hallmark of spiritual maturity. As we grow in God, our lives should be marked by love, compassion, and kindness.
Forgive quickly.
Show mercy.
Practice kindness daily.

Brothers and sisters, growing in God is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey. It requires intentionality, discipline, humility, and dependence on the Holy Spirit. The more we grow in Him, the more He reveals His glory through us.

Remember, spiritual growth produces fruit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, temperance, meekness.
