FAMILIARITY MAKES YOU NOT TO RECEIVE FROM YOUR MAN OF GOD

The way that believers view and treat their spiritual leaders has a significant impact on their spiritual breakthroughs and blessings in the area of faith and spiritual relationships. Taking someone or something for granted due to frequent exposure or proximity is a common mistake that prevents receiving divine blessings. The Bible cautions believers against this mindset because it can restrict the flow of God’s blessings, particularly when it comes to their Man of God or spiritual leaders.

Familiarity breeds disdain, honor increases blessings, honor decreases divine flow, and familiarity prevented Jesus Christ from accomplishing many powerful deeds in His hometown.

  1. The Risk of Familiarity: “Familiarity Breeds Contempt”

In Mark 6:3, the Bible makes it clear that:
“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.”

This passage refers to Jesus returning to His hometown of Nazareth. Because they knew Him as their brother, neighbor, and carpenter, they refused to believe in Him despite His miracles and divine authority. There, Jesus was unable to accomplish many powerful deeds because of their disdain for him (Mark 6:5).

Being familiar with a Man of God may cause one to underestimate or devalue his anointing and spiritual authority. When people see only the human side—familiarity with their faults, weaknesses, or personal life—they may dismiss the spiritual power and grace upon him.

  1. The Principle of Honor: “More Honor, More Blessings”

The Bible emphasizes the importance of honoring spiritual authorities. Romans 13:7 instructs:
“Render therefore to all their dues: custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”

Honor is a spiritual currency that attracts divine blessings. When we honor our spiritual leaders, we open ourselves to greater blessings and spiritual breakthroughs.

Examples of Honor Leading to Blessings:

Elisha and the Prophet’s Mantle: When Naaman honored the prophet Elisha by following his instructions to wash in the Jordan River, he received healing (2 Kings 5). His honor and respect toward God’s prophet led to his miracle.

The Widow and Elijah: In 1 Kings 17, the widow honored Elijah by providing food, which led to her provision during famine.

More honor to man of God equals more blessings; less honor equals limited or blocked blessings.

  1. The Consequences of Less Honor

When believers or followers fail to honor their spiritual leaders, they risk missing out on divine blessings. 1 Samuel 2:30 states:
“For the Lord saith, Be it far from me: for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.”

This highlights that dishonor or contempt can lead to spiritual stagnation or even divine disfavor.

Practical Implication:
Disrespect or lack of esteem can hinder prophetic blessings.
Familiarity without reverence dilutes the spiritual potency of the man of God and diminishes the believer’s spiritual harvest.

  1. Jesus Could Not Do Many Mighty Works Because of Unbelief and Familiarity

One of the most striking biblical illustrations of the power of honor and faith is Jesus’ experience in His hometown.

Mark 6:4-6 states:
“Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief.”

This passage shows that unbelief and familiarity can limit the miraculous power of God working through a person, even Jesus Christ Himself.

Why Could Jesus Not Do Mighty Works?

Unbelief: The people doubted Jesus’ divine authority because they knew His earthly background.
Familiarity: They saw Him as their neighbor, carpenter, or family member, not as the Messiah. The way you see a man of God has effects on you. No matter how Anointed a man is, where there’s no Honour, the anointed will not flow.

Matthew 13:58 echoes this:
“And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”

Familiarity breeds skepticism and doubt, which hinder faith and divine power. Respect, honor, and faith are essential for spiritual breakthroughs.

  1. The Role of Honor in Receiving from the Man of God

The Bible teaches that honoring the man of God is a key to unlocking divine blessings.

1 Timothy 5:17 states:
“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”

Hebrews 13:17 adds:
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief…”

Practical Ways to Honor the Man of God:

Respect his spiritual authority.
Pray for him regularly.
Support his ministry financially.
Show genuine appreciation and esteem.

Greater honor results in a greater flow of blessings, miracles, and spiritual breakthroughs.

  1. The Power of Honor and Reverence in Spiritual Blessings

Honor opens the spiritual channels for God’s blessings to flow freely. Conversely, dishonor or disrespect can cause blockages.

Proverbs 3:9-10 affirms:
“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”

This principle applies to honoring spiritual authorities as well. When we honor God’s representatives, we position ourselves to receive divine favor and blessings.

  1. Practical Steps to Overcome Familiarity and Receive Blessings

Maintain Reverence: Always see your man of God as a vessel of God’s power and authority.
Show Genuine Respect: Avoid taking him for granted or speaking disrespectfully.
Honor in Words and Actions: Use respectful language and demonstrate appreciation.
Support and Pray for Him: Be actively involved in supporting his spiritual work.
Believe in His Anointing: Have faith that God works through His servants.

Familiarity is a subtle yet powerful force that can hinder spiritual growth and blessings. The Bible teaches us that honor attracts divine blessings, and disrespect can block them. The experience of Jesus in His hometown is a stark reminder that unbelief and familiarity can limit even divine power.

As believers, we are encouraged to honor and respect our spiritual leaders, recognizing the anointing upon them. The more honor we give, the more blessings we receive. Conversely, neglecting this principle can lead to missed opportunities and spiritual stagnation.

Remember: “Honour your spiritual leaders, and you will receive from the Lord.” Let us cultivate a spirit of reverence and honor, understanding that more honor brings more blessings, and less honor limits divine flow.

May you walk in honor and receive unlimited blessings from God and His servants.
