A CALL TO LIVE A SPIRITUALLY AND PHYSICALLY PURE LIFE

In a world filled with sin, impurity, and moral compromise, the believer’s call is clear and urgent: to live a life of holiness, spiritually and physically, dictated by God’s standards. This is not merely a religious ritual but an authentic lifestyle rooted in inner purity, righteousness, and reverence for God.

The Bible commands us to be holy because God is holy (1 Peter 1:16). Holiness is not optional; it is our divine calling and identity. It is an inside-out process, where the heart and spirit are transformed first, and then our outward conduct aligns with the divine standard.

God’s desire is for us to be pure inside and out, living with integrity, righteousness, and holiness in every aspect of our lives.

The Biblical Foundation of Holiness

1. The Call to Inner Holiness

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

Pure heart, inner purity is the foundation of a holy life. Jesus emphasizes that true holiness begins within, in the heart and spirit.

2. God’s Standard of Holiness

Leviticus 19:2 “Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.”

God is holy, and His people are called to reflect His holiness in every aspect of life, spiritually and physically.

3. The New Testament Call

1 Peter 1:15-16 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

Holiness is a continuous lifestyle, our manner of living, speaking, and conduct must mirror God’s purity.

Living Inside Out:
The Heart as the Source of Holiness.

1. The Heart and Spirit Must Be Pure

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Inner purity begins with guarding our hearts from impurity, evil thoughts, and sinful desires. Out of the heart flow the issues of life, what we think, feel, and desire.

2. The Mind and Spirit Must Be Renewed

Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

A renewed mind leads to a transformed life, inside out holiness.

3. The Heart That Seeks God

Psalm 24:3-4 “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”

Pure hands and a clean heart are essential for true worship and living a holy life.

The Call to Be Spiritually and Physically Pure:

1. Spiritual Purity: Walking in Righteousness and Obedience

Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

Living a pure life requires diligent obedience to God’s Word. It is a daily choice to walk in righteousness, integrity, and obedience.

James 4:7-8 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”

Purity begins with drawing close to God and resisting evil.

2. Physical Purity: Maintaining Moral and Clean Living

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Our bodies are sacred temples of the Holy Spirit. Living pure physically means abstaining from sexual immorality, substance abuse, and anything that defiles the body.

3. The Power of Self-Control

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Self-control is vital for maintaining purity. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to resist temptation and live disciplined lives.

The Importance of Inner Transformation for Outer Purity:

1. The Heart and Spirit Shape Our Actions

Matthew 15:18-20 “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man.”

Our outward conduct reflects our inner purity. True holiness begins within.

2. Cultivating a Heart for God

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

A sincere desire for inner purity must be cultivated through prayer, fasting, the Word, and repentance.

Living a Lifestyle of Holiness: Practical Steps:

The Rewards of Living a Pure Life

1. Divine Favor and Presence

Psalm 5:12 “For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

A pure life invites God’s favor and presence.

2. Clear Conscience and Peace

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Purity brings peace and confidence before God.

James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”

A life of holiness unlocks divine power for effective service and victorious living.

4. Eternal Rewards

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

Living pure prepares us for eternal communion with God.

The Consequences of Unholiness

Loss of divine favor and presence.
Open doors for spiritual attack and deception.
Hindered prayers and ineffective ministry.
Eternal separation from God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 warns of the dangers of unclean living, those who live in immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Embrace Inside-Out Holiness:

Holiness is not just a religious act; it is a lifestyle rooted in love for God and a desire to glorify Him in every aspect of our lives. God calls us to be holy, not just outwardly but from the heart inward, transforming us into His image.

1. Purify Your Heart Daily

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

2. Walk in Obedience and Righteousness

1 John 3:7 “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.”

3. Live in the Power of the Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

4. Prioritize Eternal Values

Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

This is a divine call to every believer, especially ministers, to live a life of holiness inside out.
God does not desire superficial piety or external religious acts; He desires genuine inner purity inside out.
